Highlights

One of the big telcos that offer the prepaid service. Their objective is always to make you sign a contract hence the prepaid plans are not their best. Most of the plans offered are 40-60 % expensive than other vendors. The offer 3 options to decide how you would like to use your prepaid credit:

Choose a prepaid plan

Plan
Charge per minute
Description
$3 per day
0
Each day you use the phone you get charged $3, but you can talk unlimited that day.
$1 per day
0.10
Each day you use the phone you get charged $1, also every minute gets charged 10 cents.
Simple Plan
0.25
25 cents a minute.
$60 Unlimited talk plan
0 for 30 days
The 60$ unlimited is for the month, once you do not recharge after 30 days you get charged 25 cents a minute.

Pros:

  • Nice options of phones. Some refurbished phones can be bought as much as $20. Some phones get you $50 call credit.
  • Unlimited Talk to anyone nationwide on a select plan for $60 / month
  • AT & T coverage is pretty good (not 3G :)).
  • No annual contract. No credit check.
  • Refill balance 24/7 with prepaid cards, online, or through phone (free call).
  • You'll receive a text message with your updated balance after each call
  • Rollover Balance lets you carry over your unused account balance when you refill before your balance expires, up to the account maximum.
  • No long distance or roaming fees across our national service area.
  • No activation fee.

Cons:

  • Terms and conditions are not very clear.
  • Unlimited Talk plan required another plan Simple Talk that charges 25 cents a minute.
  • Too expensive when compared to other vendors. Unlimited Talk + Text and a minimum data plan cost $85 per month.
  • Customer Service for prepaid services is very bad.
  • There are packages that can be added but only on top of one of the 3 basic plans.

What existing customers say about AT&T

The $1 fee for making a call is just expensive, especially since the per minute rate is not very good. 11-2008

When I do call for support (for any AT&T branded service) I have never dealt with a company that seemed less concerned about my issues or the desire to keep me as a customer. The consistent answer for all lines of service by the big blue death star seems to be "Deal with it". 06-2009

Summary

If you have chosen to use a prepaid phone, ATT might not be the best option.

Tina, I am not sure what you meant there? This review does not cover AT&T home phone service. This is only for AT&T Prepaid Phones.
